Goodlids SS27 Delivery One Camapaign

Our SS26 D1 Campaign took us to the south-eastern coast of Tāmaki Makaurau for an overnight hike in blustery spring conditions.

We set off from Goodlids HQ mid-morning with grey skies forming above. Our destination was a north-facing campsite by the beach at Duder Regional Park: a public park set on a peninsula with dramatically steep ridgelines and a bit of shelter from that bone-chilling sou’westerly.

The Whakakaiwhara Peninsula has a long and varied history. Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki lived on the peninsula for centuries, making use of its abundant coastal resources and strategic position near the mouth of the Wairoa River. From the mid-1800s, the Duder family would go on to farm the land for more than a century. During the Second World War, the Air Force occupied a section of the land, using the area as a rocket range for fighter-squadron training. The Duders eventually sold the peninsula to the Auckland Regional Council in 1994, and it opened to the general public shortly after.

Frequent heavy showers threatened our hike from the car park to the campsite. Shooting on film is great fun, but it can be a logistical headache when things go wrong. With only an hour of light left, the showers subsided and we set off while the dark skies cleared above.

Shortly after departure, the rain returned with a vengeance. After a moment pondering our misfortune, we shrugged our shoulders and kicked off the shoot. The flash came on, and we shot our ‘Spring/Summer’ collection in the rain and the dark. Pretty honest Kiwi conditions really!

The plot thickened as Silvie’s hiking boot disintegrated. Frustration turned into smiles and laughter every time she tripped over her flappy sole.

We set up camp in the dark and prepped for the second shoot in the morning, before heading to sleep.
